That Silo/Maya custom setup is my setup. When I got the word about all this from joebount, I tried to reset Blender at work and thought I was able to reset it to get the default behavior that thomasp describes. Back home wanting to troubleshoot the setup, I tried reverting to defaults on my system at home, and can't get it…
I have to admit this is really helpful. Often I just need to select a whole section of <something> to move it slightly and this always forces me to toggle view modes. Way less often I just need to border select the visible stuff only. And for this an "ignore backfaces" mode will do the trick.
Some of it is actually pretty clever if you completely disregard that people are accustomed to other methods. For example, most people dislike RMB select, but having a button dedicated to selection isn't that odd of an idea. LMB doesn't make a box, but places the cursor, which has neat stuff that other software doesn't do…
Not sure if I understand all of your issues correctly. - bevel vertex: As lorenzo wrote and the modifier can be set to vertex as well. Or is there is problem with the result you are getting? - Contextual hotkey + Selection type: Ctrl-Tab in Edit mode - "true" local transformation (what does that mean actually?): From your…
Wow I'm excited that Blender has pie menus now. That's my favorite thing about Maya. Can Blender's pie menus be customized to be context sensitive like Maya's so it's a different menu depending on selection, such as face operations when faces are selected, edge operations when edges are selected etc. I would like Shift key…
yeah, the tinyCAD addon works for that. I used an older version and it did exactly what I think you are looking for. install the addon: https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Modeling/mesh_tinyCAD; select the two edges that intersect; press w; select VTX auto in the tinyCAD menu; done.
I have a script that does it, but I'll have to check what it's called. I'll edit and tag you when I do! @PolyHertz https://sourceforge.net/p/blenderbitsbobs/wiki/Zaloopok/ I believe I used to use Ktools for it, so that's another option. I've set mine up so that ctrl-mousewheel grows loops, ctrl-alt-mousewheel grows rings,…
Is there an easy way to rotate a component around the pivot point? Meaning, I'd like to move the pivot point of an object somewhere, go to edge mode, select an edge. Now I'd like the pivot not to center on the selected edge (as it always does in my tests), but to stay where the pivot point is. So I can rotate the selected…
