Did you setup and build paths? These can be done with pathnodes or just item placement. It's not so intuitive to the new user.

Yeah, you have 8 vertices below, and 6 vertices above. The center is weighted by the number and positions of the items in the set.

zeroing the mesh transformations before the task could work. select item(s) go to mesh properties and zero all.
