Sketchfab Testing: model -New sand texture + a bit of displacement experiment -More tweaks to composition -Another rune+light color I got feeling that scene lacks some FX or more texture work on top arc, will do another pass on textures tomorrow!
One other issue is UDK's built in self shadowing. Try placing your object in a map with your shader on it to ensure how it looks. IIRC the material viewport shadows the object even when its a custom type, so you may not be seeing accurate results.
Max 2011 is the first version of Max to allow you to save out a copy of the file in the 2010 format. IIRC. Max dosnt have the Maya ignore file version. There is no way to open the 2011 file in 2010. You have to save out from 2011 to 2010.
Yeah I think the solid suppressor is definitely the way to go with it, with groves for the "removable" end caps. IRL, end caps can normally be removed to service internals and also to swap out threading adapters for the different barrel types and threads (and also QD muzzle break designs).
If I had to do oblong eyes, I would animate the pupil/iris using UVs or by moving the texture coordinates. That way the mesh stays static, the eyelids work fine, and you still get the appearance of an eye moving, avoiding the problems Mark Dygert pointed out.
If you have a supported Max version and you're happy with the import process, then by all means stick with it. I do hope to provide some extra value later on down the line with the new art manager tool (automatic conversion of source files inc. Max and PSD files
I'll second what Arturow said. I understand that you want to get the character across the screen within the camera pan, but be sure to pay attention to weight and arc. If you upload some of your animation to Syncsketch I would gladly dive a bit further into critique!
awesome work man! There`s a vibrancy to this thats really appealing. The ONLY thing that irks me is the tower on top. The fluting of the shape helps, but it still seems a wonky. Perhaps scaling it down on the Z while still retaining the scale of the window as a separate object, might be worth a stab.
I'd too say you can't translate it both because it is a character name and iirc because "tracer" is how you call a person who does parkour, so the meaning behind the name is appropriate. Трэйсер doesn't sound bad at all for me as a native Russian speaker.
