with shaderfx you kinda get that anyway if you manage your sfx files. propagating the changes is admittedly a pain in the arse to do manually so we wrote some tooling to ease the misery. tbh. if I were doing it manually I'd export the sfx to a glsl/hlsl shader and use that instead -

For VFX I think that's either an animated displacement map, or particles that react to an animated surface or object, but if you search for how to do that in Maya or the program you're using, you'll definitely find it. I highly doubt you'll get tested. It's more of an "at your own risk" kind of thing. As long as you don't smell bad from the drugs and you can perform, and don't get in trouble with authorities, it should be fine. I knew some vfx guys in an LA studio that did crack often and even threw parties where people snorted like it… -
