cool tower defense game some peeps of mine are working on. If it's your cup of tea float them a few dollars http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1180323353/weapon-test-dummies-an-action-puzzle-tower-defense
That's precisely the trick : by using strips for the sole purpose of baking, there is no need to make them perfectly match the curvature of the high underneath. They could float as far from the surface as you want.
What dii said, and please do something about those floating wall stones; chamfer them or something. Also, what happened to your sign in the untextured render? SUGGESTIONS
I think the writers looks pretty nice. Are they floating or at they some large industrial type machine just laying down grid everywhere? That is a unique idea and I'm with the others on this. Awesome.
Floating planes with opacity maps and shadows turned off work as decals too. If its for rendering there are probably some material tricks you can do to combine different maps.
Just have to tweak some things and add some small detail, but the door and the railing are pretty much done. (ignore floating piece on the right lol) Onto the low polys!
I have a few of these laying around if you need a pic of a particular angle. Also, there are 3d solidworks and cad models floating around on the web that you could use for comparison.
A bit too much detail still. The small circular shape at the bottom or the small floating thing in the top are gonna get completely lost and cost way too many polygons.
Right, you either need to make each face on that box a floating UV island with padding or make the whole box one smoothing group (probably won't look great).
