As a university student in the UK i have to say that more can be done from a teaching point of view. The course i am on is an animation one but we get taught modelling, texturing and a bunch of other stuff but it isn't aimed at the games industry. Some students seem to think if they pass there modules they'll get a job… -

Hey! This is indeed a useful skill, and we do have lots of resources to help explain it (and many experienced artists here who do it!).
