Cropped out some time to rework arttest. Remodeled some bits and pieces, rebaked and re uv'd it in a way so that I can show overtime damage in better manor than previous version. Reduced polycount from 7800 to 6637 tris.
You can put a lot more detail into your roughness map, especially for a steel or more pure metal. You should put in some impurities and damage, some less smooth areas and I think your blade will look pretty nice
I would get rid of or significantly reduce the white spots on the albedo map. Also, your texture has no large scale variation. Try and work in some larger texture information that plays on local forms. This doesn't have to be dirt or damage either.
Hey sorry for the late reply, yeah, just a slight one. I had a look on my PC rather than my phone, and the edges do seem to look like they are perhaps deliberate, adding to a damaged effect as other edges are perfectly crisp :)
Had a dream last night I was in a Quake III level as if IRL. At least I think it was QIII... one where you had to jump ledges up inside a shaft to get to the Quad Damage. Seemed so familiar. Dreams are freakin' weird.
Pick an intesting props, with wear and damage. with metal part, plastic part etc... The best exemple are the asset from Think tank School, https://vimeo.com/201016866 https://vimeo.com/132864554 I belive it's perfect to find a job as a surfacing artist, Cheers!
Triacetate sheet is the solution. I'm still using the same nib from 2010. Also it prevents the surface of the tablet itself to be damaged, in my case it was really scratched badly in the middle, consuming the nib even more faster and making its usage difficult.
10k worth of damage to my ride,, wowzers,, i'll never talk about insurance being a rip off ever again,, all i have to pay is my 500 buck deductable, and then whatever hike my insurance takes because of the crash
you may want to do more with damage and decay. if this thing has been sitting there for a while, you'll need to show the "life" of the scene through that. more intense lighting may help a bit too. check this scene out done by Jim Magill
There's also an EXCELLENT Filter Forge filter that makes maille, and as it is Filter Forge, it can also render out matching greyscale bump, Normal Map, Alpha Map, etcetera. Best of all, it can also be set to have missing links, damage, and so on.
