      yes there is a script that can set up your SGs based on your UV layout (and much more), for 3ds max the script is called textools - look it up

      Thanks for your input! It seems this should fix it, but I'm not getting any results with the script - I select the vertex, run the script, but then nothing happens?

      The Noor’s script (the newest of the ones you listed) installs the tool, it doesn’t run it. From the link you provided: Script will be found in the customize UI under category "Noors"
