There is a combine option in Max, but you usually have to select one part of the model, hit combine, then choose each part to combine it with individually. I don't know of a command that combines it all at once (which I hope someone knows how to do so). I want to combine it all, because if it's just one object it's super…
For the first one you could just make a smooth sphere, then make the outside edges of the panels as a separate object, lastly make the inside edges and move it all into place with face-snapping to the original sphere. For the second one I'd do the same but make the lines with beziercurves, retopo the spherical parts and…
@ Drone Not sure about that, haven't seen anything like a "set to face" in Modo yet. The link below has a wireframe included. @igi yeah sorry about that, I did however notify in my first post that I didnt know if this was the right place to ask. I tried your suggestion and meshcleanup said there was a few normals that had…
Vaneir: I started with a square plane. I just extruded edges and moved verts. Once I got the shape roughed in, I made some cuts with split poly/edge loop tool and started adjusting it to fit the silhouette. I then deleted unnecessary verts to finalize the shape. I used insert edge loop to rough in the major control edges…
Chiming in cause I'm not a butthurt party. @KarlP You should plan your model out so you don't end up with triangles or poles that negatively affect your smoothing. If you're done with your model and see a triangle but your sub-d looks perfect, then try and learn why it happened so you don't make that mistake again and move…
Thanks for the reply, and sorry for not replying back for a while. I forgot about posting this here as I moved on to doing other modelling objects. I never seem to think about using booleans. Thanks for this, I'll keep it in mind when I do this again. cR45h - Can you repost your image? It's not showing up for me for some…
You could use splines to model the outline and then extrude geometry along them. Since you would be baking that, you wouldn't even have to weld the intersections. If you're good with painting straight lines, you could use Zbrush; you could paint a mask by hand then use the move tool to extrude the selected area. Might look…
Man this was way trickier than I imagined. 3ds max: I started with a highcount cylinder, removed the top faces and half of the cylinder (using symmetry later on) and moved the verts down, as the others mentioned, bridged those faces and caped the border at the top. Then I connected the verts with the cut tool to get the…
Problem with panels like this is that the cut is in the center of the quads, otherwise you could just place the corners closer to the support loops. You can try to move the egdes at the corner a bit closer and see if you can live with the bit of shading error. More geo works, though might be overkill in the end, depends…
I'm still getting the same pinching effect even when I try the method you've described, that said I am using Maya and I could be translating the sequence incorrectly. Any further help would be appreciated or if I can provide more screenshots to help solve my problem more I'll happily do so. I'm absolutely sure it's just…
