It would be good to know which software you are using... As for retopology: There are several plugins/stand-alone programs to do that. Like Graphite Tools(included in max2010+, or als plugin called polyboost for older Versions) WrapIt awesome retopology plugin for max but not free Max Retopo little free script like the…
Nice start! I'm liking the forms, it looks a like two semi-sentient trees guarding or worshiping the throne (maybe even wanting to sit there as their roots are so light on the ground). There's a lot of life and 'movement' in those tree-like sculpts, very cool :)
@bigodon All really great points. Feedback is much appreciated my man. I love how much feedback you've given. "You have in mind use a custom skybox? this might help give some mood to the scene you're working on and control where the clouds will be and their position. Also check your lut files and tone mapping it for…
@ joshschmitt: Thanks for your critique! You're definitely right, I didn't realize how much darker my post screen shader made the whole scene (plus, the monitor I'm working on still seems to be too bright...). I totally agree with what you say about the shadows too, and tried rotating my light a bit. The problem is as soon…
Hello, My name is Satoshi Arakawa and I am a Sr Character Artist working out of the San Diego, CA area. I have been in the industry for 8 years but am currently between gigs. Ended up re-doing the fallen logs. Now I'm going to sculpt a tileable texture based off the texture on the fallen tree, so the standing trees can match. Then I need to find out how to go about making an assortment of rocks..
I need a bit of critique on this tree. It was initially a test to see if I could manage to get something that looked like a tree. Should I keep working on it? (currently retopologizing it). The remaining detail (the bark, etc) will be added in the normal map, as I can't sculpt it.
Thanks guys ^^ danpaz3d: For the tree i wanted to try Speedtree, but for the only tree in the map, which is supposed to be unique and original, a sculpt will be better. Defenitely on the to-do list ^^ FullSynch: yeah don't like these very much, but they were in the miniature, so I had to put them in the scene :/
This part is sadly true. One assumes a university is always on the cutting edge, but more often than not you'll have professors who are still using Maya 1998 and haven't even heard of a sculpting package. (That might be a bit extreme, but its true in my case). Universities also seem to almost block out practices that they…
Slosh, thanks for your understanding. I know that I still have a lot to improve though. :) @Maxilator, thanks a lot for the feedback. Definitely I need to improve the folds sculpts skills! I will get better next time. :) @wingaersheek, thanks a lot for your feedback I'm glad you liked some stuff! :) I totally understand…
