It appears to be smoothing groups. Do you have multiple smoothing groups on your low poly?

It's just smoothing groups. You can set Turbosmooth and the likes in Max to Separate by Smoothing Groups.

@Manticora Is it a single smoothing group or 2? Possible solution is to make the entire wall 1 smoothing group.

set different smoothing group to each edge loop and smooth, then you dont need supporting loop

There are smoothing options next to the extraction button. Thickness just deals with how thick the shell is, not how edges are smoothed and polished.
