the polycount wiki is a great place to start: http://wiki.polycount.com/ also polycount itself is a huge leviathan of information, with most of it's hulking mass just beneath the surface...just do a little bit of digging and you'll find most of your questions have been asked and answered.
Ow, a Dutchy won't do eh? Sir wants one of them exotic Belgians that speaks Dutch. And yes gratz! And gratz to blizz, it must be one big party there with all them polycounters. I always think: 2 polycounters is a party, more then 2 is a orgy ;)
Yeah would love to see you out there Josh, hell alot of you guys from Polycount out to the event. Maybe we can even set up a polycount meetup, though things will be kinda busy for me. Hope to meet a few of you there! Spark

don't worry about polycount at this stage, you're making a high-res mesh first (hence the subsurf modifier) - which then will be baked down to a low-res mesh. worrying about polycount at a hi-resh mesh stage will only handicap you hardcore, totally don't need to consider it.
Thanks for the critique! Yeah these bumps are quite strong, i will tone them down a lot. And i made a mistake with the polycount. I posted the polycount of the mixed quad/tri mesh. So here is the right one. Tricount is 6004 tris.
@MMKH I found that too! ..by googling 'handpainted textures tutorial', As the OP should have done. If he did, he would've also found a link to an article on the Polycount Wiki full of fantastic information. Polycount is not your Google, @Sahar6262.
whoah, now I feel old when I recognize an old Polycounter coming back to the fold! You should check out Google plus, there are a lot of polycounters streaming their desktops, sharing techniques and just generally hanging out.
