What i have seen it creates a much denser mesh with evenly distributed geometry across the whole mesh, wheras with turbosmooth the geometry is located mostly around the supported edges. You need to tell Max through the UVWUnwrap modifier where to cut and split the UV shells. You will need multiple cuts because of the topology of the object in your picture.
