Okay I figured out what the problem is, but I'm still looking for a solution. Turns out I am some how enabling a different character set, like I am able to use accents hitting question mark types an e with a dot over top of it. Does anyone know how I'm getting into this mode, it's very annoying.
Argh, every time I post a question after ages trying to figure it out, I end up figuring out the solution before anyone replies..... I changed the edge display color in preferences under the UVW Map dropdown to white, thus enabling me to see the light blue point-to-point selection. /bitchslapped /facepalm
Another quick question about splines - I figured out that holding shift enables you to control anchor points individually. However, it stays this way, even when not holding shift. How do you get them to return to the normal synced behaviour? I would have thought lock handles would do the trick, but it doesn't.

I bet this is something super simple but I have been looking online and I can't seem to find why. The only way I can see my textures in UDK is with Game mode enabled. why aren't they showing in any other mode (lit)? I bet I pressed a key at some point that disabled them or something. cheers
