Yeah, we did it with the racetracks on Forza. It was a bit of a bitch though, as we had miles and miles of track and environment, calling thousands of textures and lightmaps. It was painful, but apparently our issues directly resulted in Discreet's implementation of smart object display culling.
I hope ZB 3 lets you select polygons a little bit like Maya/Max/Lightwave in a way that makes more sense than paint select your selection with quick masks that dont work yada yada yada
http://www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements top of that page has several links to good guides on how Valve does their textures. Looks like you might have baked AO, but no lightmaps. My guess is you're makin a banana stick
Hey Jason, in case you haven't checked out Hourences tutoruals here's the link to his explanations of lightmapping. It also comes up quite a bit throughout the other stuff on his site. http://www.hourences.com/book/tutorialsue3lightmap.htm Diggin the work!
Had a bit more time on this today. Sorted out the lightmap UVs and densities of them. Added in some free content water and started blocking out more of the lighting. It's still looking a bit flat so I'll need to add some colour in somewhere.
I would make the drawers single objects. I'm not sure why you would break them up or why the UV layout would matter for a movable object? UE4 can't lightmass movables so you don't even need a lightmap channel.
Hi. The foliage system in Unreal doesn't support different lightmap uvs for the different lods. This would naturally happen when going from 3d to cards. So you wouldn't be able to use static lighting with this at all. Just wanted to draw your attention to this.
Here's some more picture of the process, still have some empty uv-space to use and make proper lightmaps. Atm I have let udk make the light maps. I have used 7 uv's totally, 3 of them are tileable.
"Oddity" was is nick, he's been banned from a few sites, like Lightwaves Official forums. Alot of his work is on CGtalk under that user name. He also posts at the 'Area' under a different alias. Shame, because alot of his work was great.
I think we can add that one in "You know why Max is -fucking- awesome?" Topic :) "Because a 5yo child can create lightmap himself haha..." hm hm anyway, I'll take some minutes about your render today ^_^.
