Another thing to think about is if you really want to shoot for the 4s as your target spec, or if it might be better to ensure people not on the bleeding edge are still able to run the game/app at anything faster than slideshow. -

4.20 adds the ability to affect the terrain heightmap through render targets, so you could in theory have your crater meshes being rendered as their own height and offset the terrain underneath to simplify the process a bit. -

ohh, i see, that makes sense, thanks for the answer. So that is why in the tutorials they used plane from mudbox for the source, and the plane from mudbox again for the target. They were both planes to begin with same uv's and everything. -

Nice stuff man. Really enjoying the modal scripts, it's nice to have the maya style target weld back. How do I bind that to a hotkey? I can only seem to activate it through the spacebar search. -

Why not use a cylinder as your projection target? That tiles on U. Tiling on V will require some Photoshoppery. A torus tiles on both axes, but I don't see how you'll get the scan warped into a seamless donut. -

You don't need any additional software to convert to specular/gloss using DDO. :) Just use DDO's menu --> Add New Map --> Gloss. Repeat with Specular. Export to the target required and you're good to go. -

It would have made more sense to say the PS3 has unlimited potential(?). ...yep, they really nailed those target renders I feel bad for the folks who were waiting in line for their Killzone game machine. -
