You could always cut the geometry inbetween existing geo. this way you have natural chamfers around your mesh ( you could also select the faces and inset them) . here is a really really really lazy me doing this in gif, because at work, I have not been doing 3D for a loooong ass time.
Hi all to the master here, I'm pretty new to 3D and I was trying to model a halo battle rifle called BR85HB, and I faced some problem which I don't really know how the topology work at this section because there are like hole etc, wonder if anyone here know how it work for the topology?
can i just add that 2d cheating on concepts sucks ass to work with as a modeler. i encounter that shit on well over half the concepts i've been given to model from and it's seriously annoying, especially when clients complain about the interpretation of impossible shapes. how hard is it really to make a blockout in 3d and…
Hey Per, what's the next step in that video? It still looks like things are just sort of eyeballed, is it just a case of close enough to boolean and weld loose verts? The reason I ask is because I was modeling some mechanical parts to get 3d printed last night and realized I was subd modeling, noooooooooooooooooo!
The mesh is a just a pillar so you're just not seeing the ends. The entire mesh is like this. My UV's are laid out correctly. The thing is, this happens to every mesh that comes from 3D Coat retopo. Any other mesh from Maya is fine and I export as FBX 2013. Thx guys...I'll keep looking into this.
does anyone have any techniques for adding edge loops to curved geometry in 3ds max? like you know if you just add a one using connect in edit poly edge mode, itll make that part of the curve flat, and if the curve is very gradual its nigh impossible to tweak it by hand to make it smooth again..
@TeriyakiStyle That's not a very mature reply; I dedicated the last 15 years to 3D modeling, so I hope to fall in the category of guys you mentioned... Nobody knows better here, it all depends on what someone needs; if shitty and unmanageable, but 1:1 accurate meshes aren't welcome here, it doesn't mean that they are…
Now here's a technical question for you guys to cheer you up a bit! It really bothered me many times today. Does anyone happen to know if there's an option in 3ds max that makes the program crash in the most inappropriate moments and is enabled by default? If yes, please let me know how to turn it off. Thanks.
@FinnIsengardt If it's a separated piece in real life, then there's no need to make it as one piece in 3d as well. You can do it as one piece, but it would take just too much geometry and it would be harder for no good reason (at least IMO). In this piece you're showing I'd actually model those white metal pieces as…
You're not likely to get much help with this one here, the purpose of this thread is solving complex mechanical shapes with sub-d modeling. Your primary issue here seems to be a lack of anatomical understanding, you should study some anatomy books and make a thread in the 3D critique forum:…
