There are no polygon limits when sending to UE4 and Unity, and then you can do whatever you want with that FBX file. -

You can do something similar with decals and an alpha map. Does unity have a decal projection tool? -

Try to adjust ( fix) the virtual memory of Your PC. It means the volume initial should be egual to the volume maximum.
