It's nearing the end of the contest period and I decided to completely re-do the illustration. I feel like this new illustration captures her personality better Here's the initial sketch block in of color Rendering Final touches I think I'm pretty much done, but I'm still open to any suggestions
oh, and if they stray from the initial concept description, then they're out. Simple as that. Who cares how good it is. It's more of a challenge to stay within the given direction. You would never get anywhere in this industry if you kept going around your AD's back and making characters that just didn't fit the brief.
I am sure 3DR had control over what was shown, and if that's what they want to be for the first official game play footage than thats what initial impressions will come by. They may reveal later on about some new in-depth design elements but for now, I think it looks very so-so.
Here is the initial throne concept. We went with a throne that would be controlled by a droid-like drone atop the seat as we wanted to focus on machines keeping the room alive. Their are cables that come from the drone to power the chair. Cables also run from the Throne to other machines. As usual appreciate any feedback.
Finished the real-time model and unwrap. After that I did initial bakes in Substance painter and started painting and playing with specular and roughness values. I plan on going back and tweaking the tunic, pants, and boots, cause I can do better. Still a ways to go before I call this done.
After eating and thinking a bit, I decided on making a cornerpiece sorta thing of a wizards study, and I'll share my steps here in the hopes for critiques! Initial sketches of some objects I want and a first pass on the color scheme and lighting. Not sure if I'll do the dragon head on top of the bookcase or not ehehe..
Dude, somebody showed me that MGS one not too long ago, I had the same reaction as wester, it looked really good initially, then when I saw everything on the other side it blew me away. These are incredible! very inspiring. Fantastic work. Can't wait to see what the other 2 are :)
Here are some initial ideas for the type of vehicle, not sure which direction to go in yet. I am liking the first one more, fits with the era/style we originally were thinking about. A lot of the details we will figure out when we get to modelling it. Next up the character concept.
We would need to know what the limiting factor in your PC is, is it memory, CPU or GPU? But generally ZBrush can make sculpting on lower end setups a little more bearable. As for performance in Blender, dyntopo sculpting with "collapse short edges" should make initial rought sculpting a lot more performant.
@studtoprof - thanks :) . So, I guess I'm going to unofficially make this thread my 2015 sketchbook since I never started one over here...plus I haven't finished my initial project and I keep doing these in-betweeners. With that said...here's another quickie I did this weekend.
