Be careful of lumpy sculpt for your rocks. You want to make sure they read as rocks. Some sharp angles and flatten a few areas will help a lot. -

Re: low poly smoothing problems
When you detach the parts, the vertices become unwelded, hence the sharp edges. Just unwrap the shit, attach everything back together and weld verts. -

Started with Zspheres, tried making muscles, fucked up, made sharp angles instead. Going to do some hair and retopologize, or the other way around. -

Your textures have a lot of contrast to them. You should try for more of a softer appearance. Less sharp blacks and whites, more color and midtones. -
