I switched things over lastnight to needing moderation per first-post here on Polycount. This should eventually bring spamming to 0. In the mean time, if it happens, it will be from spam accounts that hadn't posted yet and made it in before this was implemented.
...Or a captcha/human-friendly question and answer on sign up? Or first post approval? Something needs to be done here, as having bots all over the site is bad for everyone. Surely first post approval is as much work as looking at a reported post list and deleting/banning accounts?
I was actually wondering how many new valid account is made every day, and how much work it would take for some thread mods to verify the first 5 posts by a new user. The first 5 posts by a user have to valid and proper (no "Oh that looks great" posts), which would require the spammer to actually have to create posts…
Ideally, this would be a constructive discussion, rather than the apparent nay-saying and other silliness that's going on.
