i really like this scene! I think the moss still looks a little fake on the rocks right now...I think its the harsh transition from completely covered in moss to not covered at all. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out..good luck!
Yeah, I actually have a bunch of totally different approaches going on in different areas. On the left you have pure particles, on the right you have meshes with particles added. I was experimenting to see what techniques I could use and what would look best. I am probably going to go with something similar to what cholden…
@Torque: I've added some banding in but it doesn't appear to have made much of a difference. Slowed down the water drips too, they look a bit better now. I'll try tweaking the blueness in the water a bit. I'm not sure about using geometry for the waterfall on the right. It looks like it's falling in pretty massive…
The scene is really coming together and is looking great, but the waterfall is a bit odd yet. The left side is awesome, but on the right there's an emitter that just really throws the whole thing off in my opinion. The one where it looks like puffs of smoke are just coming out of the rock and slowly falling down.. and ends…
I swear, every time you post an update on this (at least with recent screens) I think it's 2d work instead of a UDK scene. crazy! Your progress is solid right now, but I'd be careful about the lighting on the doorway. That area might be getting lost in a bunch of median shades and, seeing how it's the focal point, I feel…
Hey there , I look at this concept ,and I must say i really like the idea. However your stones could use a bit chipped shape and more sharpness.By chance I happen to have a recent model i modeled yesterday. You can see it HERE.And nice techniques to make stones I can also suggest - visit THIS blog , It has great VIDEO…
Now that I see it in motion, the waterfall effect looks sooo much better with the motion blur. Actually looks like water now instead of snow so that's good. Would still suggest adding the variation bands to the alpha though and see how that looks since its quite easy to update the sprite texture. Also, the speed of the…
Hmmm... yeah your textures look almost the same as the changes I made so any chance I can see it in motion? Another idea might be to also adjust the alpha transparency so that its not as solidly consistent in all places. Sort of how Jocose was suggesting bands of value change with the mist... I use the same effect on light…
There's one trick that you might want to apply to your rocks to make them pop out more. Take your normal map, desaturate it and apply a high-pass filter in PS. Then, adjust levels (bring the midtone slider closer to hightone slider) until you have a strong contrast between the dark tones and bright tones which correspond…
It's looking good so fra :) Echoing uppying the wetness of the rocks though, take a look at Epics GDC 10 map and look at the rocks with the waterfall. Notice it has a dry area and a wet area, try incorporating something similar to that on your scene (making areas that would get sputtered more by water wetter and areas that…
