You can retrieve your file by two ways : in File/Recover auto-save which shows last version automatically saved of your file Otherwise, you can manually remove the "1" of .blend1 and then open it in Blender.
I think people answered most of them, so I'll add my take on this automatic backup files: it has saved my life a couple of times when I stupidly incremented a save I wasn't supposed to. You can always delete them later.
Okay, I finally got it down...The problem was that I was not setting the image node's color space to Non-Color before baking. If I leave it at the default Linear, the map will come out wrong. Thanks for the help guys. I noticed Udjani says to save it as a Copy, and Zeist as Save As Render. I tried it both, and no changes…
