HDDs fail no matter what brand you have. It happens. Live with it; back up your data. I have 3 WD HDDs in my comp and 1 external. They all work perfectly. Sorry you got a bad HDD.
Time-honored system is 3 copies of your important data: 2 copies onsite + 1 copy in the cloud (or at a friend's house). I've lost data, and it's painful. I've also had drives start to fail, and replaced them before any loss. Drives all fail at some point, both HDDs and SSDs. Backblaze shares some nice data on this. If you…
I've owned a MyBook for a couple years. It hasn't given me many problems, but I haven't used it often. Honestly, it's not very well made. And it is a typical hard drive, so it's not portable at all. I will say mine did survive a couple 7 hour flights, a few shorter flights, and a move...all within a luggage bag, and it…
Honestly, ANY USB drive, and on top of that ANY harddrive for any computer ever made is going to be prone to failure, there are no failure proof brands. You can squable about which brand has a 2.13% failure rate and which has a 2.37% failure rate but at the end of the day you're putting your data on an unreliable medium,…
Guess what buddy I lost 8 years of solid work on my last hard drive and you know (it was a western digital :O) Just as I was backing it up, it went kaputt on me. BUT.... If you can explain you're problem with the current WD HD you have (Before hitting it on something and possibly scratching the disks) could you tell me A.)…
I don't bother with buying external HDD's for storage at home. I just have the Thermaltake dock for all my SATA drives. I write who the drive is for and log what it is on the front. If there's something I want to move from comp to comp. I have a 80GB USB drive that's usually empty. ::LINKY::
WOOT! It did backup! And yes, sorry. I use the term '3D work' in lieu of my porn. Force of habit. so YEH! I totally recovered all of my '3D work', and I'm sofa king relieved. FUCK YOU WD!!! >_< now im gonna play teh shit outta FEAR 2
my My Book bugged out a few months back. Couldnt access any of the data on it at all. Then one day I have it plugged into my computer, turned on my computer and my computer tryed to boot from my My Book for some reason. Found some corrupted file and deleted. Works fine now but I dont really trust it anymore : /
sorry to hear.. but: 0. working folder 1. backup on DVD 2. backup on external hd (search web for "modelname + problems") 3. evtl backup on 2nd external hd thats how i do it and thats why i don´t loose any work anymore if you manage to loose all 4 backups than get yourself some champagne and celebrate
not trying to be an ass but you should have backed stuff up. using portable storage as your only place for keeping stuff is asking for trouble. Invest in a Raid setup. once you get it running you need not even think about backing things up because its all done automatically. I use only WD drives and Ive never had one fail…
