Yup mrmmaclean thats pretty much how I would have done it, plus its faster on fillrate which a lot of older hardware (ane low poly target platforms) have issues with, so overall a huge boost.

Thanks, really I didn't saw the specification about the polycount of jobs. My target is develop works with a limitation around in 700 polys (the last one is above this limit I know). I promisse read the first page and dont put here models above the specification.
I spoke to some people about it a while ago as I was wondering the same thing, they mentioned to try work at the target res rather than shrinking down, e.g. if 64x64 is what's required work at that rather than doing a 256 or 128 and shrinking it to 64 at the end. P-51 "Bronco" for Sky Rogue, from Summer 2019. Target platforms were PC, Switch and Xbox One; so my base line was low end PCs and Switch. I took special care to mask the extra polygons with hard edges so the higher density meshes still looked good with the earlier low poly models from 2013/2014.
