It doesn't look bad, it's just a matter of perspective. You can save a lot of time by replacing volumetrics with fake cones of light (see my pics here - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/WPyxJ) and do hairs on a carpet with parallax occlusion if you're not doing closeups. Coming up with a pretty neat workflow for placing hair cards for realtime chars. Beats the hell out of hand-placing in maya or modo. End result is kinda cool. It does clock in at 1k tris for just an eyebrow, pretty ludicrous. Pretty fun technique though.
