Just for the sake of being accurate : for Dota2 user generated content the split going to the artist is 25%, not half. It's the same for Chivalry, and probably the same for TF2 too.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand its great that people might get paid for some of their work and could lead to some high quality content. On the other hand it also means lower end content might still have a price tag attached to it. I feel like my Skyrim would be 95% less modded if I had to pay for most of the…
but the modification of the content is only allowed within the context of all participants having purchased their own copies of the game, and submissions deemed too damaging to the brand will likely be taken down
I would definitely not want any more content - but then that's not always how DLC works. Sometimes thet like to insert that extra ten minutes somewhere in the middle of the story, which is pretty rotten.
Seriously. Consumers are seemingly unaware or uninterested in this fact. They just want the same amount of content they got in 15 years ago, with the best production value modern hardware can afford, and they don't want to pay more.
I'm not sure if I missed something but I didn't see where it says Valve is taking 75% of the cut, the only thing I saw was that content creators get 25% of the cut. It is quite likely that Valve is taking somewhere between 15% - 25% for themselves, and giving the rest to the developer and publisher of the game, and a split…
Not sure how to feel about this. It will be amusing that's for sure. It might lead to people creating higher quality mods, but if Greenlight is any example, opening the floodgates can have the opposite effect. In fact, I'm not really sure if I like Valve's recent decisions. They've made a lot of steps to make their…
Indeed, and I expect that's the same for a lot of us. My main job is working as a web designer, because honestly if I am going to have my artistic creativity crushed I might as well make decent money :P My current job is about to end and I was seriously considering moving to eastern europe for fun, breaking onto Valve's…
My apologies if I'm coming off that way, it's not my intention, I am just genuinely asking why? Edit: also fair point about apples and oranges, I guess I'm just viewing everything in the broad sense of content creation.
