And what about solution like this? Shelf with script which is opening window for running other scripts (it's basic - concept): global proc runScript(){ string $script = `scrollField -q -text scriptField`; eval $script;}global proc LTMel(){ if (`window -exists LTMelWin`) deleteUI LTMelWin; window -title "Micro Mel Editor"…
just curious what other than mel is not included in that list? The development is an ongoing process, and the feedback here has certainly created some positive discussion on the beta forums.
According to Frank D's twitter page, "Its coming very soon in the next update. Mel scripting support and OBJ export. :)" Is this update also only for subscribers or will it be available to all LT buyers regardless of subscription?
Working link: http://www.gamefromscratch.com/post/2013/08/27/Autodesk-finally-offer-cheaper-Maya-indie-edition.aspx Yeah, no MEL, no plugins, no SDK, no rendering, and a 25k poly limit? For $795? Pricy and crippled. Lame.
The no mel, no plugin support makes this pretty much useless for indies who want to setup their own pipeline with assetmanagement. The beauty of scripting is that it enables small teams to batch a lot of work and save time and they completely take that away
I've been giving it a test drive w/o the extensions and it does everything I need it to. Well done Autodesk-Python Support would be nice but I do understand keeping it strictly to Mel. Subbing in the next couple of days
well, according to ADSK it seems that opening up mel scripting, unlocking poly caps and plugin support will most likely hurt their core market because current core users might think they don't need to spend $3675 on core while they could just get by fine with MayaLT for $795 i can understand that could be a possibility,…
For a saving of (6 * $3500) - (6 * $800) = $16,200 I can probably switch back to MEL. Our "indie" tools are mostly for content delivery. I guess I'll just have to see what works and what doesn't with a demo of LT.
seems pretty stupid the great thing about maya is mel and python scripting, i have thosands of lines of my own custom python scripts and plugins for maya 2012, and i shudder to think how it would be to use maya with out them.
I'm really glad you guys "patched the holes" in Maya LT, it's much better package right now and actually something that the target customers would enjoy. I wouldn't have ever considering buying Maya LT without Mel, they're my favorite couple :P
