Anuxi gave u the recipe. Switching from different levels of mesh resolution is a must have option if its not just a concept stage. Sculpting via dynamesh is not enough to get the right results. U must carefully make you clean and polished Low poly mesh and then go and just put some details on higher res mesh.
I got a stupid dong workflow. I just cut the shape out messily on a plane in Max, then copy the shape, flip it, and extrude. Then I add some edge loops at the inner and outer corners and along the extruded faces to get a quick high poly mesh, and once it's in ZBrush and subdivided I dynamesh it so I can sculpt on it.
You have to dynamesh it with a high enough resolution. The higher the resolution the better it will conform to your original base mesh. The resolution can go up to 2k. Smooth curve shapes can be hard to do in zbrush if i'm thinking of what you're thinking of. Google for a zbrush hard surface tutorial, it'd explain it a lot…

@DeBoo The "non-standard faces" error is from the fact that there are ngons(polygons with more than 4 sides) in your lowpoly somewhere, and zbrush doesn't support ngons.
