I made another torso today. I also decided that I will focus only on one part of the body and after I move to another. The previous body is made by following tutorial. This is with no tutorial, just to find out what I have learned already. Every cretique would be great.
There's a definite trick or 2 to that workflow. Danny Mcgrath has a great tutorial that will get you as close as you can get. This is the promo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdCNht6vjoc . Here is the link to the tutorial - it's the best $4 you'll spend. Helped me. :) https://gumroad.com/musashidan# Good luck! Daf
What engine are you using? If Unity, they have example projects with included animations and state trees you can dissect. Unreal probably have similar sample asssets. http://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/projects/stealth-tutorial-4x-only the specifics are in Player Setup and Player Animator Controller
I think it would benefit from a lot more gradients and hand painted detail in the texture. There are some old Racer445 tutorials for metal. Cant find the old crate one anymore, but this ones pretty good. http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/photoshop/how-to-hand-paint-convincing-metal-textures/
This tutorial: http://www.game-artist.net/forums/spotlight-articles/43-tutorial-introduction-normal-mapping.html Also I don't have DX display of standard material. What does it do? @Adam Thanks, it works! It doesn't exactly show up as it's supposed though, I think it's sort of mirrored.
I like using the graphite modeling tools by drawing splines on a cylinder just like Mark said, here's a nice tutorial for that : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvlj18mJnyI&feature=plcp&context=C441b953VDvjVQa1PpcFMZ-76zdrNbk2XoS0QXgWuKuDgDIjWMPfU%3D&noredirect=1 (I strongly recommend watching all of his tutorial ^^)
I know it's a little dated, and I'm not sure what the users here think of it (I just signed up, hello everybody) but the Joan of Arc tutorial will take you through some good steps in developing the body. http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/body3.php
Pretty good tutorial here worth checking out as well, also using splines http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3d-studio-max/using-splines-to-add-detail-to-your-high-poly-model-in-3ds-max/ [Oops! Already posted before. Oh well here it is again!]
I would get unreal tournament 2007 collectors edition for the tutorials worth the 59 bucks. That's what I did. The tutorials are really good. It's mostly for the mapping part of it. For low poly modeling you can go to poops site www.poopinmymouth.com and this should help as well. http://lounge.ego-farms.com
[ QUOTE ] I'm going to make some tutorials for the material editor , particle tool, and kismet this weekend for you all to get more familiar with UE3. Make the tutorials exclusive to polycount [/ QUOTE ] Thats a really cool thing to do lee! im considering pickin this up and have a whack at it myself
