Thanks for the examples Eric. What about environment stuff(which is where I am finding the issues) it feels unnecessary, but is this an older technique used in past generation games? (just trying to figure out where this studio got it in their head to use it for everything)
Yep Eric, that's exactly what I was getting at. I also PM'ed LordScottish if he's interested in debating this, I'd love to hear which "intelligent people" truly believe in ID as a scientific theory, if they haven't been fed misinformation or distorted/outdated theories.
Thanks Eric and Xeno, I think Im going to start basic modelling with 3ds max and try and get up to scratch quickly, I know the material menu and other things will be totally new to me since blender doesnt have them!
hey thanx Eric for the tip...will ve to try it tomorrow now...but i did get over the problem today...it seems i had to set the project to my current working directory. I was not familiar to max's project feature...it worked at last... thanx :)
Awesome, thanks Eric, thats just the kinda thing i was looking for. I remember seeing that weapons thread a while back but couldnt find it for the life of me. Great pdf too, thats going in my collection. Good tips Astro, thanks.
Eric it's funny you should mention that as we just implemented that tech on Friday. We are actually going to bracket the lighting per environment so we don't waste any bit depth if the lighting does not get bright enough or dark enough.
Blender's got a lot going for it, but they've neglected a lot of basics that prevents it from becoming say, a core modeling program for a studio. If your needs aren't as specific like my studio was, multiple artists used blender to do the modeling, then jumping to Maya for UVs and pipeline. I used both and this was for the…
Thanks for the tip, @Eric Chadwick ! I downloaded the normal map from the model you provided and applied it to my velvet material as a test: There's definitely an improvement with the additional normal map. I'm going to try building my own during my next pass on this material.
thank's Eric Chadwick yest it's very helpful but i want to know more about it i will continue a reaserch about this topic and maby make an other post to share what i find. and if you have any other documentation it will be great to share thank's again
eric: note for padding: "You can never have too much, ever, never ever ever have too much, its a non-existent problem having too much padding". I use like 32 pixels for everything, because well, why not?
