Thanks for that reply. You are totally right, I think I have been completely mislead by poorly written online tutorials. I thought I had to manipulate the UVs themselves rather then the individual pixels, which makes far more sense. I guess I am more artistically minded than mathematically minded so I have been learning…
Yep, perfectly clear thanks again Eric. On a slightly related note. On my exploration of trees, it seems that what people have produced here on PC is quite honestly better than what is seen in a lot of games! The level of quality seems higher. Now I guess that could be the 'limitless' style of a portfolio piece, but take…
ok decided to be stuborn about this and see what the difference between my mesh for sculpting versus the example that polyhertz gave me, I noticed that per sub division even though I was still able to eventually sculpt in the details of the eyes etc I could do the same amount of details with little to no pinch points…
I would recommend looking closely at real-world locations that use a lot of neon lighting, and try to replicate that look and feel. For example Ginza district in Tokyo comes to mind, especially the back streets which are not so intensely lit as the main streets. https://whenin.tokyo/Tokyo-s-Best-Backstreet-Alleys Remember…
Hi! Congrats on finishing the project! I like the idea, however the readability of the design could be improved, from the silhouette but also the interior shapes. For example currently, the beard gets visually cut off by the dark braces. Sometimes using different materials can help to contrast layers against each other.…
Looks really great! The only thing that stands out to me, as that the paint is shaded like a metal, while most fire extinguishers I have seen have a glossy red paint that isn't metallic. Example: Love all the fine details on this!
Back again! Most of the work over the last 4 days happened on paper, not in-engine. I put together a rough prop list to populate the scene — about 50 core items, but many of them will have variations (like different tables and chairs). So yeah, I’ve basically signed myself up for a fun little adventure of modeling 150+…
This post based upon OP's numbers here http://polycount.com/discussion/171689/pbr-the-problem-with-greyscale-metalness#latest: I have several questions regarding this metalness usage plus a real-world example to ask questions about: (BTW this is not for game engines and targeted for 3DS Max renderers and such) 1. We are…
In painter > filters > material finishes. These are sometimes part of the pre made materials inside Painter, these will always show seams unless UV seams fall in more logical places. (example: apply material finish on chest armour plates https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueC2qGzWrgQ&t=1276s that wont show seams) As for your…
FWIW the third weapon pic, it's material finessed variation plus contact wear patina is pretty accurate because I'd worked with similar military grade hardware as a profession when alot younger way back in the day. Might also add polymer components are as they should look after constant use in real life so you've an eye…
