Don't know about that, Maya had a modern UI upgrade last year, Max has it this year; they added a lot of modeling tools and improvement in Maya these last versions, but I'd say it seems like a better progression because it was lacking in the first place :D . Ah I see. Well basically I add an edge loop where I want to split the panel. Then I chamfer the edge and add 2 edges inside (in the chamfer dialog). Then I select that inner row of faces and just extrude them inwards a bit. And with turbosmooth it looks as it does above. Some of these cuts were more difficult though, like… -

this may be totally offbase Andummy, but also make sure your mesh is set to single sided, what you may have there is if you extruded your mesh negatively in any way your normals could be actually flipped. Average/smooth cant figure it out if thats the case. To check off double sided on your mesh go to the Attribute editor… -
