You can texture one set entirely, then put all the layers into a single folder and copy-paste that into the other texture sets. Smart materials aren't a 1-click solution. They also depend heavily on your input maps like normal, curvature, AO... Open up the mask in dynamask, look at the inputs the smart material is using, play with the sliders and figure out why it is masking where it is.
