So...I did a bit of research around the internet and found a way to fix it, might be useful to someone else with this issue. Might also want to add to the Wiki? In mental ray render settings go to Options > Performance > Make sure 'Export Polygon Derivatives' AND 'Maya Derivatives' are ticked ON. Here's a comparison render…
It happens to me every once in a while. That and holes in my mesh. Export as .obj and triangulate pre-export. If one of those doesn't fix it, then both should. At least that's been the case in my experience. Also, if you haven't or didn't know about it, you can try checking your normal direction display -> polygon -> Face…
I have to admit its going to be another workload learning a new app.Thats the advantage Autodesk will forever have.Being one of the oldest 3d apps around,a lot of studios have built their plugins, app and trained their staff based on Maya or max that learning a new app might actually take away from valuable time spent…
I did this on a flat plane, with a normal map applied, and the tangents will diverge even on continuous sections if you split the UVs. I was using Maya 2013, but installed 2014 a few days ago (don't know if that would do anything). The following image shows a sort of specular seam (You can see it on say a lambert but it…
Hey. What a great guide! Thanks for that. =) I just cant understand one thing. After I create APEX clothe in 3ds max 2014, I export fbx file and import to my UE4 project. I tried 3ds Max 2015 and 2014, importing it by drag and drop and by dialog. What color settings do you mean exactly ? I tried bot with gamma correction on and off and both results dont match the expected values. I also tried opening the Image in Photoshop with Different Color Profiles (SRGB, Adobe RGB, or leaving the…
Hey @FMNOOR , thanks for the response. I haven't tried using a proxy mesh yet, I'll give that a try and bump the thread with an update. What I was trying to achieve was a rock bursting through a wood panel. I modeled the breaks into the wood panel, so that I can hard weight the pieces to their own joints, so before the…
You do realize you can turn that off right? http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2014/10/photoshops-new-welcome-screen-in-photoshop-cc.html "Note: to disable the Welcome screen, click Dont show Welcome Screen Again at the bottom of the New Features panel. Choose Help > Welcome Screen to enable it at a later time." The live…
So in the file you sent me, the normal map is a JPG. That's bad. Don't use a lossy file format like JPG for normal maps, instead use PSD or TGA or TIF. Around the rivets in your normal map, the JPG format has added a bunch of noise. This is the fault of JPG compression. Another problem is the rivets are not strong enough…
