Slice the polygons on your scabbard, extrude them, cleanup the geo. I've done this a lot because it gives you a very usable result for low poly. Or at least "low" poly. Model the leather wraps (probably from curves) floating around your scabard, use whatever your 3d application's version of shrinkwrap is to make the wraps… -

what do you mean? some pictures of your attempt would help - remember topology takes orders from you, not the other way around :) there are a few strategies you could use here, booleans are an obvious one, or you could cut the stuff in yourself if the mesh is dense enough, or model the side profile of the blade with the… -

@rregula For the 3dsMax lag in viewport you should try to disable in the viewport settings something called adaptive or progressive quality I don’t remember exact name. Also personnaly I can’t use correctly « high quality mode »I stay in standard mode and never set textures higher than « 2048 » inside viewport properties.… -

pretty good start so far, only a couple critiques. The indented area near the top/rear of the grip looks a little strange, like it is inset too much on your model compared to the photo. Also, for the little ridges on the grip, you will probably need to bevel them a bit at the top so they get picked up in the normal bake.… -

Main thing I can see left with the high poly is a quick adjustment to the angles of the extrusions for the bottom of the yellow section. The bottom black cap you made has nice 30-40 degree extrusions, but the yellow part is at almost a perfect 90 degrees. You'll hardly be able to read it most likely once the normals are… -

Not too bad at all, geometry looks pretty clean but your getting that soft messy look when you subdivide due to the lack of control edges. For instance say you create an extrusion on a surface - that extrusion has to be held up by edges at all sides, the distance of these edges will determine what softness you are aiming…
