Re: 3ds max 2012 - must click wireframe to select object?
If anyone else ever has this question come up, it appears to be tied to Nitrous - with Nitrous turned on, clicking a face (that has no wire behind it, say the middle of a plane) will not select the object. With D3D as the display driver, it will. I have no idea why this causes this issue. -

If you fuck it up in 3d it also looks bad. You do have rules in 2d. #1 being dont draw outside the confines of the space. Also let me point out. Im talking 3d in general. Not CG 3d. -

You should bake in Substance man, Max is really bad compared to that, not to mention Max uses it's own tangent standard. Substance uses whatever is in the FBX, which is a much better approach. -

This is caused by smoothing errors due to bad topology. Where the holes are cut out there is a giant n-gon with no supporting edges. Cut in some edges to alleviate the shading errors. Radeons have historically had poor drivers for working in 3ds Max. Not that helpful for you, sorry. After a bad experience, I've kept with Nvidia. Have you updated your drivers lately? Worth a shot. Have you tried switching to another display… -
