I was wondering if there was any downside to having intersecting geometry or whether it's best to have only floating when creating high poly models for normal mapping.
The ability to wait is love. This haunt is floating in 3-D space yet expecting to accommodate a new couple. The seascape on the wall is a real picture painted in oil by my father.
Its possible the HP was not completely flat when baking. For instance if you only had holding edges at the bevels but no additional edge loops throughout the flat parts of the model you can get a very subtle arch across the "flat" surface from bevel to bevel...
