Not sure if they changed the tool in 2012 - but did you delete your history / freeze transformations on your model in between bevels?

I found that in the example above with a simple sphere - I can freeze transform and the light will work wherever the sphere happens to be.

Visuals > Gameplay At least for this game. It feels like they wanted a visual masterpiece, but not a gameplay masterpiece. <3 transforming weapons though.

If you Select both Faces instead of there vertz and use the "Transform Component" Gizmo tool thing then that'll also work

"Preserve textures during transformation" it´s a big feature, but I think they don´t think on game developers at all.

True, only an issue if your transform cost is greater than your fill rate, which is a rare problem these days. :)
