Great stuff so far! I've been starting to practice modeling & texturing aircraft models and such as well and it's definitely a challenge! Especially sci fi stuff! Looking forward to your approach!
I could be wrong, but I swear for some editors similar to the starcraft editor it has a wireframe view and it seamed the decales and textures were all set up on a grid that matched the wireframe.

Cant think of much current games that come with support for custom stuff. But starcraft 2 might be interesting? I hope crysis 2 will have a easy pipeline to get custom characters in it.
It's about a size of the fighter. With a very different design with the cockpit located off the center which I find very itneresting comapred to a lot of starfighters that looks like some advanced aircrafts.
One of my history teachers claimed the Navy let Pearl Harbor happen (withdrew most anti-aircraft defense and radar equipment from the area) to have a reason to enter WW2.
Da Vinci would most likely design aircraft and im not even sure if he would be an artist in classic sense because he would just take photos instead of drawing...

There is no such thing as too dense or too low - It just depends on the intended use of the model. What you are doing at the moment is pretty much in line with what one would see in a realtime ingame cinematic made for a project like Uncharted or StarCraft II.
It's helpful that your friendly local Suite product manager grew up on Microsoft Flight Simulator in the 90s. :) I'd look up information on how to develop addons for FSX. Custom scenery and aircraft model tutorials will likely work 100% with P3D.
