I cant help you with this issue. But im wondering if you really need to work with the old muscle system in maya. In a lot of cases its easier and more appealing to work with a PSDeformer based on a RBF solver and blendshapes. one method is to switch the mapping of these keys but that would affect the entire system. if that's acceptable then you can do it through system preferences -> keyboard -> special keys (loosely translated from my german OSX install here. After looking at that, I feel the consoles have sort of reached a saturation point. I think the 360 & PS3 could go for another 5 years beyond 2012. There just seems like so much breathing room available yet to push these systems as new dev tools are created. Just adding more detail is just going to make the budgets larger…
