Think less of details to add and more of telling a storyvisually. Look at traditional and 2d art tutorials to get instruction on this in more distilled form. Also, a bit indirect. but I think understanding the basics of fiction writing can hhghelp as well,. Always good to diversify if you got time. You may watch favorite…
Take this with a grain of salt, but from my completely lacking in professional experience standpoint, I think you should try to wait it out. You enjoy where you work, you have a company that seems to want to hold on to you (or at least, you're not disposable garbage to them). Not all folk are so lucky. I am not a social…
Wow all of the responses took me by surprise, so much valuable information. Eric Chadwick/ skylebones: Thank you, setting my ego aside was something I had to do fairly early on. My goal right now is very specific, and I am very fortunate to get the advice of so many amazing artists here on polycount who have already been…
Pretty much this. Sony especially seems to be trying really hard to get more indies on their platform and they seem to be very proactive in reaching out to them. Hell, having The Witness shown during the PS4 presentation already shows that a shift is happening. I think we'll see more and more of niche titles. Games like…
No, I'm not talking about creating fields of solar arrays or massive wind farms to power entire municipalities. I'm talking about putting small residential-friendly systems that each power a home or office separately. Solar and wind will never replace nuclear or coal as a centralized system, but they can serve as a…
Hey Ralusek, this is really well done. Most videos will be aimed at either people completely fresh to 3d, or Blender-users, and this fills a gap that needed filling. Well done. I've always had an interest in Blender, but found that I was always much better served by Silo and Max. I'm following its development closely…
I would agree with s1dk, a lot fo the PBR stuff in UE4 would help to diversify the surface. Many of the materials you are trying to accomplish would be only a few nodes in Unreal 4. I do however like all of the detail and color of each material, and I think that if you could bring the mesh into Unreal 4, it would look great
Tldr: Theres always hope! In the last polycount upgrade thread this was discussed and i think something is gonna happen. May just be the tagging system they're planning on using, an then just add another to mark gold or something. A idea to save on admin work would be; "Featured post" tag on a post marks it as awesomesauce…
Ah difficult to assess what you're capable of then. I worked a year in architecture viz, I find that going freelance in this career is more practical. I'm now looking to be a character artist for games. If you're looking to get into games, I suggest a portfolio specific to that (level design), then apply places and go from…
