I'm no shader pro but If your model disappears it's likely that your vertex shader position transformation is not right -

Yeah, that is one way to it. Selecting the duplicated object and freezing the transforms of that objects also seems to work in that situation. -

@.Wiki I froze the transformations using the xform modifier in 3dsmax, and ensured there was no scaling in xNormal too. No change :( -
