Adobe offers CS2 for free, but it's legal only if you already bought Photoshop in the past. CS2 does not work with nDo2 however, the CS2 scripting engine is too old. -

Yeah, default Max tools are way enough to get started with UVing. I think I used them for a few years before getting polyunwrapper and other scripts. -
Re: MODO - Export FBX with multiple layers
So "Export Selected Layers" is basically a big script that Gwynne wrote. You'd be better off just going File > Export As... and that should do what you want.
