Hey James and Mark, thanks a lot for the feedback! @Mark - Those are some really good points, I have to check out more information on proper realtime deformations, etc. Will make that my next priority - cheers :)
Doom3 still uses a editor very similar to q3Radiant. Just the lights can be editied in realtime now. But you are right, the overall use of mapmodels has increased, and lots of the textures need a highpoly model as a base for the normalmaps.
I've also heard SSDs get slower over time like other HDDS because of fragmenting or something similar, although i think Corsair?? made a chip that automatically defrags or w/e in realtime to stop that.
change the viewport veiw mode to realtime and Change it to gamemode view that might do it. It also looks like its in unlit mode you might want to turn on lighting as well. (use the small buttons at the top of the viewport)
Yep, Mari will render all of those textures in realtime. You need a bunch of fast storage / SSDs / FusionIO cards to work efficiently with that much data, but as long as your disks are quick enough, Mari can handle it.
Is this realtime? Prerendered? What's the purpose? The leather is rather noisy, yet lacking in actual detail. In fact, the whole scene (minus the wood) looks like it's made with the same normal map and just some colors thrown over.
I think i just got Triggered. JordanN: what do you mean it doesn't give you realtime feedback? Oglu: With a bit of extension pack magic, you can paint procedurally with mari too.
your bakes are too sharp for realtime, you see there is tons of aliasing in your normal renders. Id maybe do the side grips entirely in the normal too. Aside pretty good. Is it me or is it a bit flat tho?
Honestly, for a realtime engine unity is starting to bring some good features to the table to showcase your art. not nearly to the level of udk or marmoset, but you can still get some really decent results with a little work
Bubba as far as I know Metalness is only used by realtime engines such as UE4 and Unity. V-ray does not have (and does not need) metalness. Just input the maps suggested above and you should be good to go! :)
