I use Maya at work and Max at home. Yeah, I wouldn't recommend switching the navigation, you'll lose some stuff. Embrace the navigation, or if you want re-map the keyboard modifier keys somewhere else in your mouse/keyboard, do it if it helps (I did), but don't touch Max' navigation controls in the Customize User Interface… -

Yeah the verts thing is bogus. Sometimes mine will completely disappear as well and i have to unhide them all. I've also ran into the super slow undo. Sometimes it can be caused by max crashing and you reverting to your autoback file and somehow they get corrupted with some bad data. I usually just export an obj and… -

Autodesk 3d studio max 2009 cs3 mx expert edition (TM) It's like the last 3 versions of photoshop/illustrator. Nothing substantial added, all the same bugs present, bad compatibility between the programs. I've left max for dead but still find it easy to use. -

Even better to pick on, bad architecture previs guys. :/ They get a ton of money for really crappy jobs. Hell i saw one in the city the other day where there were photoshopped people under a tree but he didnt modify thier lighting from direct sunlight -_-. -
Re: 3ds Max: Is there a quick way of placing bolts?
I also use advanced painter all the time. It shouldn't warp your object. Try resetting the transforms on your bolt before you scatter on your mesh. Max can sometimes have problems with bad transforms on an object causing warping when you rotate it. -

I have added some lamps and a bed, will be doing another version of the bed that goes closer to the camera that is slightly different. Super quick diffuse on the beds too. Also updated the lighting slightly, adding some fake bounce lights. I will make the lighting more dramatic towards the end. Thanks for looking.
