18 is far too many. Most terrains in UT3 as an examples used around six textures total. The trick is in how you handle your normals and specularity. The limit to the number of textures is 16 - however around 4 of these are occupied already by stuff the landscape does behind the scenes, so you only really get around 12. -

entertainment industry usually sees a rise in sales and income during times of recession, look at it this way, if you were a parent with a wife and 2 kids, what's cheaper, going out of town for a weekend or going to see a movie? Vacation or a couple games to keep everyone occupied for a few weeks? Sure there are layoffs… -

There's nothing shit about a WASR. If it goes bang every time and puts a bullet on the target within minute-of-bad-guy, that's exactly the rifle it's supposed to be. :) Nice AK. Needs a good slant brake on the muzzle though (unless you live in occupied territory and local laws prohibit said common sense...) -

Well if you fill as much as possible the UV space that you have with the model that you are unwrapping, then you can use a higher detailed texture map and that will give you a much better looking model. The more the UV space your model occupies the more texture density you can use. -

I tried touchpad and it was a pain in the arse, slowed me down about 10x and is just frustrating. Last time I tried doing anything on a laptop on a train... there's usually not enough room to use the mouse unless you're lucky enough to be on a train which has tables, and those tables are not fully occupied... -

Add some things to the front hull or the sides to occupy the space, as in tools or more cables. That would be my suggestion right now. -

Far as I can tell the normal map has applied perfectly, the high poly to low poly bake seems to have worked fine, they both occupy the same coordinated prior to exporting to substance, I hardened the uv shells, and the UV itself seems to be fine also, as there is no overlap and decent padding.
