I bought the tutorial today and had a quick look at the included Substance Painter project. Very intimidating stuff :S I'm gonna go through the tutorial and hopefully be able to follow the modelling process along in Blender.
It's a portfolio piece, but I would only include that amount of topo if you're actually going to show a whirl-kick pose that requires it. Without the pose or animation, the topo looks way overkill. My 2 cents.
Thanks, figured a lot out, but still cant get the panels to look like proper cs6 ones, also from the jsx in the panel is there a way to #include my jsinc files from photoshops script directory?
if you hover your mouse over the very top of the tool bar (it should show a paint brush stroke) you will see all the options for ways to use the brush. This includes straight lines, shapes, etc.
I was so excited to see this included in the March release of UDK - I've been following that thread for a while. I'm a sucker for anything Sci-Fi. Getting to 'play around' and see how he did that was awesome. :)

i think you overused filters. the reference looks like it's mostly hand painted, including the damage. whereas your finished asset seems to have noisy overlays on the entire texture. just my $0.02
