I've got a question for anyone that knows, lets say I go through the hassle of setting up everything how I think it should work and a new release comes out, will I need to redo all that work or is there a way to transfer it forward? At least with Max/Maya that only happens once a year but it seems like every few weeks with…
I hate to be nitpicky (or do I ?) but : hard edges are very much relevant now. Simply because there are scenarios when some parts will just connect sharply (for instance an arm sticking out from a shoulder sleeve). In such cases, hard edges are not about some nebulous performance savings bur rather all about clean…
@Udjani like Kirk said above, yeah OSL in Cycles freezes like blue hell. My CPU is a i7-4790k. Creating a 32 bit float saves it as a 16 bit correctly as you said, and now I can finally see the normal map correctly inside Marmoset :) There is one problem though - I need to make it sRGB color space in Marmo to view it…
@Idlero Thank you! So I had to be looking at the System Console, nice. A few Qs if you or anyone reading this could answer... 1- If I install an add-on, and close the app without saving preferences, next time I open Blender the add-on will not be installed. Yet, I can still see the .py file that was installed in AppData…
Is there a way to prevent new add-ons from adding shortcuts to Blender when first loaded? It would be a nice toggle to have if the UI could prevent it from happening. Otherwise since they show up on top of the regular shortcuts it's pretty easy to just zoom through them and delete them one by one. Btw, In 2.77.1 I'm…
@fdfxd2 Thanks for the tips :D That U unwrap menu was everything I needed and more! ------- I've been unwrapping quite a few objects now and picking up some speed. To my delight, unwrapping things in Blender isn't quite as bad as I feared at the beginning. In fact, in some areas it's even faster than my previous methods in…
I think this argument is a bit silly. Undoubtedly, Blender would be better with ngons than without. Since when has giving people a choice of workflow ever been a bad thing? If you don't like ngons for some reason, fine, use ctrl+t, but for everyone else, it can drastically increase the speed of modeling. Having started…
We've got some guys over here that use Blender and at first I was a bit skeptical but man they produce some good stuff.. Even more impressive is that they switched from Max to Blender, not for the cost savings(although who's complaining about that?), but because of how much more efficient they find the workflow. One of the…
@Ruz I think you will find that Hair Tool solves that issue and saves you the roundtrip and probably then some. Then again I have never looked at xGen at all, wouldn't know how it compares. In Blender you have orientation and 'scale' on the CV level and at least as a former longtime Max user (does that answer your question…
Well, initially I wanted to lower my costs of operation so I started to look for alternatives to 3DSMAX. Blender and Lightwave were both strong candidates on my list, but since Blender is free I decided to try it out first. I don't think there are any areas in the program itself that I particularly like better in Blender…
