Location isn't specifically, it's more the saturation of people looking for jobs - I use Vancouver as an example because it has 4-5 pretty high end training schools for CG / Animation - They churn out people, probably 60-70 per month combined. What? No, never do this. Deleting half of your low is ALWAYS going to cause seams. There just isn't any situation where this is a good thing, its A. more work and B. going to break your bake. Adding it to code would help a lot but in the case of your picture you are probably going to have to do more than that. You can't set the project distance very far as it would still go through the ground then, as you have now. If you make it too low you wouldn't see a shadow when jumping.
